Jesus is the fulfillment of all that the prophets wrote about. The only way to really understand the Bible is only through Jesus. I am reminded of a story in the Bible. After Jesus was beaten, abused, crucified, buried in a borrowed tomb and left for dead, and finally resurrected; He met up with a couple of individuals who were traveling the road to Emmaus. These two followers of Jesus were very saddened over the events of the previous days. They had witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. They were very defeated. Don’t get the idea that the Old Testament is about anything other than Jesus. Jesus began with Moses in the Old Testament an went through the prophets. Luke 24:27 is a very important verse of reference.
Luke 24:27: And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Other Scripture to be considered:
Acts 10:43: To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Revelation 19:10: And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant and of they brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of me.
Let’s walk through the Bible for a few important things one must understand to properly interpret the Bible”
In Genesis 3:15 we discover that the Messiah (Jesus) will be born from the seed of woman.
In Genesis 9:25-26 we discover that the Messiah will come through the line of Seth.
In Genesis 12:1-3 we discover that Abraham will father a nation (Israel) and that the Messiah would come through that Nation.
In Genesis 49:10 we discover that the Messiah will come from the tribe of Judah within the Nation of Israel.
In Isaiah 7:14 we discover that the Messiah would be born of a virgin.
In Micah 5:2 we discover that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.
These are just a few examples of how we interpret Scripture in the light of Jesus. Everything in the Old Testament points us to Jesus. Every moral law of God, for example, Jesus kept. I remind my congregation all the time that morality is not something we invent; it is something we discover. Morality is not man made it is part of God’s creation. We also understand that every ceremony, ritual, holy day, sacrifice, etc. points us to Jesus. We also understand that Jesus fulfilled the judicial law. Jesus became the final sacrifice that all other sacrifices were pointing.
Jesus also makes the claim that all other scriptures that are yet to be fulfilled concerning the second coming of Jesus will also be fulfilled.
